Hydrotherapy

Hydrotherapy

Specialist hydrotherapy using the therapeutic properties of warm water to improve movement, reduce pain and support rehabilitation for adults with complex and long-term conditions.

Conditions treated

What can hydrotherapy and aquatic therapy help with

Some of the conditions we treat — though not exclusively.

PMLD

For people with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD), the warmth and buoyancy of water offer a comfortable, enjoyable environment to support movement, posture and wellbeing. Hydrotherapy can help maintain flexibility, ease discomfort and provide meaningful sensory experience.

Supported movement in a safe environment
Maintaining flexibility and range of movement
Easing discomfort and stiffness
Sensory engagement and enjoyment
Working with families, carers and support staff

Neurological conditions

The warmth and buoyancy of water make it an ideal environment for neurological rehabilitation — supporting movement, balance and strength with reduced risk of falls. Hydrotherapy complements land-based rehab for conditions such as stroke, MS and Parkinson’s.

Supported balance and movement practice
Strength and coordination work
Reduced falls risk in a safe environment
Freedom of movement not possible on land
Complementing your wider rehab programme

Complex & long-term conditions

For adults with complex or long-term conditions, hydrotherapy offers a gentle, effective way to maintain movement, manage symptoms and improve quality of life — tailored to individual needs and goals.

Maintaining movement and function
Managing pain and stiffness
Relaxation and comfort
Individualised, goal-based sessions
